Cape Girardeau council backs American Airlines proposal for regional airport service

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Cape Girardeau City Council has unanimously recommended that American Airlines provide air carrier service at Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.

The proposal includes six weekly round-trip flights to Dallas-Fort Worth and six to Chicago O’Hare using 65-seat jet aircraft.

Airport manager JoJo Stuart says the change could lead to more destination offerings and potentially make the airport self-sustaining.

The U.S. Department of Transportation must approve the switch from Contour Airlines, whose contract expires Oct. 1.
