Cape Girardeau County to honor late Coroner John Clifton with flags at half-staff
JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) — Flags at all Cape Girardeau County-owned buildings will be flown at half-staff this weekend to honor longtime county coroner John Clifton, officials announced.
The Cape Girardeau County Commission said flags will be lowered from Friday, Aug. 22, until dusk on Sunday, Aug. 24.
Clifton, who served as county coroner for 16 years before retiring in 2020, died peacefully at his home Aug. 11, according to Crain Funeral Home. He served the county for 58 years.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Crain Funeral Home, with a service at 7 p.m. conducted by the Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge 639. A second visitation is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m.
