Cape Girardeau Police Department celebrates promotions and honors heroic actions

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – The Cape Girardeau Police Department recently celebrated the promotions of six officers during a ceremony. Here are the promoted officers and their new roles:
Lieutenant Darrin Sides: Now serving as Patrol Commander
Lieutenant Keith Green: Now serving as Auxiliary Services Commander
Sergeant Brett Hellmann: Now supervisor of “A Platoon”
Sergeant Cody Farrow: Now supervisor of “B Platoon”
Corporal Jake Carter: Now corporal of “A Platoon”
Corporal Andrew Nabholz: Now corporal of “C Platoon”
Each of these officers has demonstrated exceptional leadership, commitment, and service to their community.
Special Recognition
During the ceremony, Lieutenant Darrin Sides received a Life Saving Award for his heroic actions on December 13, 2024.
He responded to a call about an individual who jumped from the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge in an apparent suicide attempt.
Sides demonstrated extraordinary courage and teamwork by entering a rescue boat alongside Fire and EMS personnel to locate and recover the individual from the Mississippi River.
His quick thinking and commitment to duty helped save the individual’s life.
