Cape Girardeau police investigating attempted kidnapping

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The Cape Girardeau Police Department is investigating an attempted kidnapping that happened late Sunday night.

Cape Girardeau police received a report of an attempted kidnapping at about 10:51 p.m. on June 19 in the 1200 block of South Sprigg Street.

The victim, a 19-year old woman, was helping a hurt animal in the road when the suspect approached her, struck her in the face, and then attempted to pull her into his vehicle, according to police. She was able to fight off the suspect and shout for help, which caused the suspect to leave the scene.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 50-60 years of age, between 5’6” and 5’10” tall, having an average build with a large stomach. He was clean shaven and had gray hair that partially covered his ears.

The suspect was driving a newer model dark blue single cab pickup truck that may have had yellow lights on top of the cab.
