Cape Girardeau revives Riverfest for America’s 250th Birthday Celebration
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Riverfest, a beloved annual event in Cape Girardeau, is returning in 2026 to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.
The free community event, dubbed “Riverfest, A Great American 250 Year Celebration,” will take place on July 4, 2026, and will feature a parade, festival, commemorative ceremonies and fireworks over the Mississippi River.
Event organizers, led by Co-Chairs Jeanne Muckerman and Deb Maevers, are seeking volunteers, sponsors and new ideas to make the celebration a success.
“We’re coming together to celebrate our past, present, and future,” said Muckerman. “This is an opportunity for Cape Girardeau to showcase our community spirit while honoring the historic significance of America’s 250th birthday.”
The city’s popular fireworks display, previously held at Arena Park, will be moved downtown to create a spectacular show over the Mississippi River.
Community members can get involved by signing up on the website at Riverfest Cape or by contacting Muckerman or Maevers directly.
The event is part of a nationwide celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, led by the federal Salute to America 250 Task Force.
