CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – While major highways are looking mostly clear, some area back roads and county roads are still looking a little rough.

The Cape Special Road District shares updates on the County Roads they cover.

“Right now, our roads are predominantly partly covered and that’s pretty thin partly covered, in the shady areas that are still mostly covered where the sunshine hasn’t done as much melting but for the most part, I would say typically thinly, partly covered says Mark Phillips.

Mark Phillips is the District Engineer for the Cape Special Road District. The district handles some of the county roads in Cape County, he says crews continued laying a mixture of stone and cinders throughout the day today.

“I think today with the temperatures and the good sunshine, I look for improvement today and, tomorrow and hopefully be in a lot better condition by the end of the day tomorrow” says Phillips.

Drivers reported county roads still being pretty slick today and Cape Public Schools announced school will be closed again tomorrow along with multiple other area districts.
