WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A car versus bicycle crash led to a methamphetamine arrest in Williamson County.

Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Stotlar and Valparaiso Roads to the report of a car versus bicycle traffic crash at 6:42 p.m. on Thursday, December 28.

Both parties were traveling westbound on Stotlar Road.

The driver of the car was unable to see the bicyclist before the crash and believed they had hit a deer.

The bicyclist was riding the bicycle without required lighting near the center of the westbound lane wearing a black coat and black hat, according to sheriff’s deputies.

After he was hit, the bicyclist, identified as Jonathan H. Fox, went to a tree about 25 feet from the road, sat down, and began digging in a black bag.

EMS arrived on scene and told Fox would be taken to an area hospital for moderate injuries.

Deputies found the tree that Fox had seated himself underneath and saw three hypodermic syringes and an orange ARC Electric brand C cell flashlight.

Sheriff’s deputies say four pills which were later identified as Trazadone were in the battery compartment.

Upon removal of the Trazadone, a small plastic bag containing a white crystalline substance, which later field tested positive for methamphetamine, was found.

Fox was medically cleared from the hospital and arrested.

Fox faces charges of possession of methamphetamine less than 5 grams (Class 3 felony), possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor) and no lamp at nighttime (petty offense).

Fox was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
