Carbondale to honor local leaders with honorary street signs

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The City of Carbondale will hold an unveiling ceremony on Aug. 8 at 9:30 a.m. for two honorary street signs recognizing the contributions of Elbert Simon Sr. and Kenneth “Kent” Mason.

The signs will be placed at the intersection of East Oak Street and North Washington Street, designating North Washington Street as “Elbert Simon Sr. Way” and East Oak Street as “Kenneth ‘Kent’ Mason Way.”

The honorary designations recognize the community leadership and lifelong service of Simon and Mason, who have impacted generations of Carbondale residents.
