City of Carbondale launches search for new police chief

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) – The City of Carbondale has launched a search for its next police chief, seeking an experienced leader who embodies 21st-century policing values.

The ideal candidate will be a visionary with excellent managerial skills, a proven track record of ethical decision-making, and experience managing complex organizations.

Key Requirements:

– Education: Bachelor’s degree in police science, public administration, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
– Experience: Minimum 10 years of progressive supervisory experience in law enforcement, with at least two years in senior command-level experience.
– Special Requirements: Valid Illinois driver’s license, certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, and residency within city limits within six months.

The city offers a competitive salary range of $122,000-$135,000, commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
