Community sends off local veterans on honor flight to Washington, D.C.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – VFW Post 3838 and the Avenue of Flags are hosting a heartfelt send-off ceremony for local veterans and their caregivers as they embark on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
The event, made possible by the Robert Wake Foundation, aims to honor and celebrate the veterans’ service with an all-expense-paid trip to the nation’s capital and war memorials.
The send-off ceremony will feature various patriotic events, including:
– Patriotic Presentations: Recognizing the veterans’ service and sacrifice
– Student Tributes: Clippard Elementary students will present banners and letters to the veterans
– Bagpipe Greeting: A traditional bagpipe performance to honor the veterans
– Ladder Truck Salute: A special salute by local firefighters
– Photo Tributes: A commemorative photo presentation honoring the veterans
– Food, Photos and Gifts: Refreshments and mementos for the veterans and their families
The tentative order of events is as follows:
– 9:45 a.m.: Veterans arrive at CGI Airport Terminal
– 10 a.m.: Patriotic presentations and recognition of service
– 11 a.m.: Honor Flight passenger boarding
– 11:30 a.m.: Official Contour Airlines flight takeoff
