Crash on I-55 sends driver to hospital

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — A multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 in New Madrid County sent one driver to the hospital with serious injuries Thursday.

The crash occurred around 4:33 p.m. on the northbound side of the highway, near the 39-mile marker. Portageville Rescue responded to the scene, where they found one vehicle in the median and another off the right side of the roadway, upside down in a tree line.

Crews worked quickly to extricate the occupant of the overturned vehicle, who was taken to a nearby ambulance with serious injuries. The occupants of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Portageville Rescue cleared the scene by 5:08 p.m. The Portageville Fire Department thanked the Portageville Police Department, New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office and New Madrid County Ambulance for their assistance.

The fire department reminded motorists to reduce their speed and use extra caution when driving in wet conditions.
