Farmington Water Park closes Tuesday after near-drowning involving child

FARMINGTON, Mo. (KBSI) — The Farmington Water Park is closed Tuesday following a near-drowning involving a child Monday evening.
According to the City of Farmington, the incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. July 20, when a lifeguard found a child unresponsive and removed the child from the pool.
A staff member with the St. Francois County Ambulance District, who was already on site, immediately began CPR. City officials said the child regained responsiveness at the water park before being airlifted to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.
According to the city, the water park will remain closed Tuesday to allow staff time to debrief following the incident.
The splash pad will remain open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and will be free to the public.
City officials said no additional information about the child will be released out of respect for the family’s privacy.
