Fatal house fire in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — UPDATE- Cape Girardeau County Coroner released that the deceased person in the fire is 21-year-old Isaiah Rose.

A late-night house fire in Cape Girardeau claimed the life of one person.

Firefighters responded to the 2 1/2-story home on William Street at approximately 10:20 p.m.

Thursday and found heavy fire conditions on the second floor.

Despite their efforts, they were unable to save the victim.

A family pet also died in the fire. No other injuries were reported.

The fire is believed to have started from an unattended cooking fire, according to investigators. Fire crews from Cape Girardeau and several surrounding communities worked together to bring the fire under control within about an hour.

The community is coming together to support those affected by the fire.
