Firefighters fight house fire in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Cape Girardeau firefighters are on the scene of a house fire.

Firefighters were called about smoke coming from a house.

Engine 4 was the first unit on scene.

“They made a 360 of the structure. They found out there was a fire in the basement. They went around and ended up forcing the door to the basement. The fire was contained to the basement area. Started having some extension into the first floor,” said Cape Girardeau Fire Chief Randy Morris.

Chief Morris says there is a lot of smoke damage.

The people in the home were able to get out safely and remove some pets.

Firefighters are working to find the cause of the fire.
