Firefighters put out fire at Cape Girardeau business

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Cape Girardeau firefighters put out a fire Monday morning on Nash Road.

It happened at Leggett & Platt located at 4614 Nash Road. Crews were called at 9:05 a.m.

The business manufactures sponge rubber carpet padding for both residential and commercial use.

The first firefighters on scene saw heavy black smoke coming from an exhaust pipe on the roof.

Firefighters contained the fire in about 30 minutes.

The fire damaged a boiler inside of the business.

Everyone inside got out safely. No one was injured.

The estimated dollar loss is $50,000.
