Free substitute teacher certification now offered at select Southeast Missouri school districts

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI(KBSI) – Those interested in becoming a substitute teacher can now do so at no cost through free grant funding offering training opportunities.

Mineral Area College in partner with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is now offering a 4 day DESE approved substitute teaching program as an alternative route to certification in Southeast Missouri Schools.

The 4- day program is completely free to those who qualify.

Minimum qualifications to enroll in the training course include having a high school diploma or equivalent, being 18 years or older to sub in a K-8 building, or 20 years or older to sub in a 9-12 building.

“This course is offered in conjunction with Mineral Area College and will feature local instructors from various educational backgrounds,” Narrow said. “It will provide you the information and skills you need to be a successful substitute teacher.”

Available substitute training sessions will be held at the following locations.

Chaffee Highschool Library
