Groups call to end gun violence after Chiefs Parade tragedy
(KBSI) – The February 14 mass shooting, that took place at the Kansas City Chief’s parade, has moved groups to demand that we stop the gun violence and put a plan into action to finally end this American tragedy.
For the 49th time this year, another U.S. city has become a statistic, which is the number of mass shootings in 2024, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
To put that in perspective, we are just 45 days into the new year.
Securing events like this is a challenge. It’s something former deputy director of the FBI, Andrew McCabe, says is, “Almost impossible to completely secure.”
The Mayor of Kansas City is echoing that, “We had over 800 officers there. staffed, situated all around union station. today, we had security in any number of places, eyes on top of buildings and beyond.”
Tonight, many are wondering what needs to happen for Americans to finally feel safe again.
John Feinblatt, President of Everytown for Gun Safety released a statement that reads in part: “This shooting is yet another reminder that no parade, no church, no school — really, nowhere at all — is safe from America’s gun violence crisis.”
According to the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Missouri has “appallingly weak gun laws and one of the country’s highest gun death rates.”
