Illinois Star Centre Mall in Marion, IL getting makeover
MARION, Ill. (KBSI) – The Star Center Mall will be receiving a makeover.
Cody Moake, Chief of Staff for the City of Marion says, “It’s an opportunity for our local residents to have some experiences that we haven’t had locally.”
Moake says the project for the mall is an exciting addition for Marion residents and those traveling through, “Couldn’t be more excited, something that we work, this administration has worked three years very diligently on. But something our community hasn’t had the opportunity for, for almost two decades now.”
In 2010 the Illinois General Assembly and then-Governor Pat Quinn signed into effect for Star Bonds, to fund future Destination Development within the Star Bond District.
This development will be paid by the sales tax of the revenue provided by the project.
Rodney Cabaness is the Master Developer for the Star Bond District and he explains how the project is divided in three parts, “So, the three parts really are the mall redevelopment, and that’s the oasis outdoors destination retailer, and the next part is the retail center which is just south of the mall on the other side of route 13, and then the third part would be the golf and pickle ball complex, which everyone seems to be pretty excited about,” says Cabaness.
Cabaness adds, the Oasis Outdoor Destination will be something people will want to travel for, “We want to make it so that it’s extraordinary, so we don’t want to cut any corners and we got a lot of people working on it right now to see how we can make it amazing.”
Cabaness says he hopes the project will be done by the end of 2024.
