Iran (KBSI) —Iran’s newly appointed supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, was reportedly injured in a recent airstrike that killed several members of his family, according to multiple international news reports.

Officials cited by outlets including The Guardian, Reuters and The New York Times said Khamenei was hurt during the Feb. 28 strike that killed his father, longtime Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The attack also reportedly killed other close family members, including his mother, wife and son.

Iran’s ambassador to Cyprus, Alireza Salarian, told reporters that Mojtaba Khamenei suffered injuries to his limbs and may be receiving treatment at a hospital.

Khamenei has not appeared publicly since being named Iran’s new supreme leader following his father’s death. He has also not released a video message or public statement.

When asked about reports of his condition, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said American officials could not confirm the status of the Iranian leader.

The reported injuries come as tensions continue to escalate in the region following military strikes involving Iran and Israel.
