Jackson R-2 votes on Prop T

JACKSON, Mo (KBSI) – Jackson R-2 School District Board of Education voted to place Proposition T on the April 2, 2024 ballot.

Prop T asks voters to consider a $0.47 operating tax levy increase per $100 of assessed valuation of real and personal property for the purpose of paying general operating expenses which include attracting and retaining quality teachers and staff members, protecting programs and class sizes.

Annie Appleton and Larry Beussink, shared reasons why they are for Prop T while Shawn Tidwell explains why he voted against it.  

“I am definitely an advocate for any sort of improvement to our school system and a huge advocate for teachers who deserve better pay” shared Annie Appleton.

Larry Beussink was also in favor of Prop T sharing his reason why, “I think it’s time that Jackson steps up and supports their teachers and their schools.”

One voter that we spoke to, Shawn Tidwell, shared why he was against the vote for Prop T, “I definitely want better for our teachers, but if it’s gonna cost higher property taxes and they don’t already have the funds that they’re supposed to have in there, I’m definitely not a fan of that.”

Jackson’s Board of Education has their mission on their website which states “The mission of Jackson R-2 School District is to graduate life-ready, service motivated citizens with a passion for learning.”
