JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) — The City of Jackson and the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the completion of the city’s new gateway sign with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday.
The event is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, at the intersection of East Main Street and Old Orchard Road, where the new “Welcome to Jackson” sign has been installed.
The sign is part of the city’s Welcome and Wayfinding Signage Program, funded through the Missouri Division of Tourism’s Marketing Platform Development Grant Program. The program supports communities in developing tourism assets that enhance destination marketing and improve the visitor experience.
Located along one of Jackson’s main entry corridors, the sign features the city’s recently adopted logo and branding and is designed to welcome visitors while promoting community pride.
“The new gateway sign is more than just a welcome marker,” Mayor Dwain Hahs said. “It represents the partnership, investment and vision that continue to move Jackson forward. Whether someone is visiting for the first time, considering opening a business or returning home, this sign helps showcase the pride we have in our community.”
The project was completed through a partnership between the city and the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce. The chamber secured a Missouri Division of Tourism grant to fund the fabrication and installation of the $30,000 sign.
The gateway sign is part of a larger signage initiative that also includes two event and community map signs in Uptown Jackson. Combined, the three signs represent about $65,000 in signage improvements. The city used funding from its American Rescue Plan Act Uptown Wayfinding Signage Project as the required local match for the tourism grant, reducing the overall local cost of the project.
City officials said the signage initiative reflects Jackson’s commitment to community branding, tourism promotion, economic development and creating a positive experience for visitors.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony is open to the public. Off-street parking will be available in the vacant field behind the sign, weather and field conditions permitting, with access from East Main Street.
