POPLAR BLUFF, Mo., (KBSI) — March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and medical professionals at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center are emphasizing the importance of regular screenings for Veterans.

A walk-in event will be held March 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the main lobby of the facility, where Veterans can learn about the screening process and receive a testing kit.

Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S., with risk factors including age, family history and lifestyle choices. Regular screenings can significantly improve treatment outcomes and survival rates.

The VA’s FIT-first approach emphasizes the importance of regular screenings, which can be completed at home with a convenient testing kit.

Veterans who cannot attend the event are encouraged to contact their primary care provider to discuss screening options. For more information, call 573-686-4151 or visit (link unavailable).
