SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — A juvenile is facing multiple charges after Sikeston Department of Public Safety officers recovered two firearms, suspected methamphetamine and marijuana during an investigation Sunday evening.

According to a news release, officers responded June 21 to Lincoln Park after receiving a report of a person with a firearm. Officers located the juvenile and the vehicle the juvenile had been using at the park.

Police said the juvenile was carrying a crossbody bag and resisted officers while being detained. During the arrest, officers found a handgun tucked into the juvenile’s waistband and a second handgun inside the bag.

Investigators said one of the firearms had its serial number scratched off and had been illegally modified with an auto sear device, commonly known as a “Glock switch.” Police said the device converts a semi-automatic handgun into a fully automatic firearm capable of firing multiple rounds with a single trigger pull. Both firearms were equipped with extended magazines capable of holding more than 20 rounds.

After obtaining a search warrant for the vehicle, officers recovered a backpack containing ammunition matching one of the firearms’ magazines. Police also found a yellow pill that tested positive for methamphetamine and located marijuana inside the crossbody bag.

The juvenile was charged through the Scott County Juvenile Courts with possession of an illegal firearm, possession of a defaced firearm, felony resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
