Juvenile charged in Sikeston homicide investigation

SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — A juvenile has been arrested and charged in connection with a homicide that occurred Thursday evening in Sikeston, according to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety (SDPS).

On Friday, Oct. 17, members of the SDPS Criminal Investigations Unit, with assistance from the SEMO Major Case Squad, identified, located, and arrested the suspect. The juvenile has been charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, four counts of child endangerment, and other misdemeanor offenses.

Authorities said no further information will be released due to the involvement of juveniles. The investigation remains active.

The shooting occurred around 6:45 p.m. on Oct. 16, when ShotSpotter technology detected multiple gunshots in the 400 block of East Gladys Avenue. Shortly after, the department received several 911 calls from residents reporting gunfire.

Officers located a gunshot victim who was transported to a local hospital and later died from their injuries. The victim’s name has not been released out of respect for their age and the privacy of their family.
