Kentucky man on unknown substances crashes into police car

LYON COUNTY, KY (KBSI) – A man crashed into a police car after waking up from being unresponsive in a locked and running vehicle.

Brent C Bennett of Eddyville is facing multiple charges after being unconscious and intoxicated from unknown substances.

On July 22, 2023, around 10:45 a.m. Kentucky State Police received a call of a man in the driver’s seat of a silver cadillac who was unconscious and unresponsive.

The vehicle was parked in an intersection at Days Inn Drive and US 62 Wes in Lyon County.

Eddyville Police Sergeant Shannon Oliver, and Lyon County EMS responded to the call and attempted to wake up the individual but were unsuccessful.

Sergeant Oliver then tried getting into the vehicle through the passenger side window. The driver, Brent C Bennett then woke up and crashed into the sergeant’s police car.

Sergeant Oliver was slightly injured and had to seek medical treatment.

Bennett was then arrested and faces charges of improper parking/blocking traveled portion of roadway, criminal mischief-1st Degree ($1,000 or more damage to EPD cruiser), DUI-1st Offense, no insurance-2nd offense, possession of controlled substance-1st Degree (methamphetamine), possession of controlled substance-3rd Degree (drug unspecified), drug paraphernalia-use/possession.

Bennett is being held in Crittenden County Detention Center.
