Kentucky to launch new driver licensing system, online portal in June

FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI) — Kentucky will launch a new driver licensing system and online portal in June aimed at improving efficiency and reducing wait times, Gov. Andy Beshear announced.
The updated system, known as the Kentucky Information Network for Driver Licensing, or KINDL, is scheduled to go live June 8 and will replace the state’s current system, which is nearly 40 years old.
Officials said the new system will allow residents to create accounts through a “myDrive” portal to access services such as pre-applying for licenses or IDs, requesting replacements, updating addresses and checking license status.
To prepare for the transition, all driver licensing regional offices will close June 4 and 5. Offices will reopen June 8 with adjusted walk-in hours through June 18, and some online services will be temporarily unavailable during the system migration.
State officials are encouraging residents with June renewal dates to complete their transactions before the temporary closures.
The upgrade builds on recent efforts to improve service, including staffing increases and new check-in systems that have reduced average wait times at licensing offices.
