MADISON, Ill. (KBSI) – Madison School District 12 has released a statement following a shooting at a football game Sunday night that left one person dead and three others hospitalized.

The shooting occurred Nov. 1, 2026, during a football game that district officials said was organized and operated by a third party, not the school district.

According to the district, the event was authorized under Board Policy 8:20, which allows outside organizations to use district facilities.

“The District is deeply saddened by the shooting that occurred during a football game on the evening of November 1, 2026,” district officials said in a statement.

The district thanked first responders and medical personnel who responded to the shooting and expressed condolences to the victims, their families and others affected.

Officials said counseling and support services will be available to students and staff who need assistance.

The district directed questions about the investigation, the identities of those involved and the conditions of the hospitalized victims to law enforcement.

District officials said additional information affecting the school community will be shared as it becomes available and is verified.
