Man arrested after drive-by shooting in Cape Girardeau County

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – A man faces multiple charge after law enforcement authorities say he shot a firearm out of a vehicle and yelled profanities at someone in Cape Girardeau County.

Aaron D. Rinehart faces two counts of assault – 1st degree or attempt, two counts of armed criminal action, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk and unlawful use of a weapon.

Law enforcement responded on Friday, July 26 at 3:57 p.m. for a report of shots fired. The location is redacted in the probable cause statement.

Someone told authorities a black passenger car drove by. The person identified Rinehart as yelling profanities. The person said the driver drove by again. As the vehicle neared an intersection about six gunshots were heard and there were bullets “whizzing coming from the direction of the vehicle,” according to the probable cause statement.

Law enforcement found four 9mm shell casings near the intersection and a bullet fragment on the road. A truck also had the front driver and passenger side windows shattered with what appeared to be a bullet hole.

Police say the shooter was identified as Rinehart.
