Man arrested after holding woman against her will in Colp residence

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI)— A man was arrested after holding a woman against her will in a Colp residence.

It was close to 7 a.m. Sunday, February 9, when Williamson County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call in Colp, regarding a domestic situation.

The female caller said she was being held against her will by a man armed with a knife.

Sheriff Jeff Diederich said she knew the man holding her hostage.

The man also sliced the tires of two vehicles to prevent the woman from getting away.

By the time deputies arrived, the woman had escaped and was waiting outside the residence, according to Sheriff Diederich.

“Once we arrived, the female was able to have gotten out of the residence and was greeted by law enforcement,” he said. “We attempted to speak with the male individual that was still in the house. He refused to come out and surrender to law enforcement.”

After initially barricading himself and refusing to exit the residence until law enforcement obtained a search warrant, the suspect – Doral C. Berry – eventually surrendered himself to the deputies.

In addition to an outstanding warrant for dangerous drugs, Berry is facing charges for aggravated unlawful restraint, criminal damage to property, aggravated assault, and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.

Berry was transported to the Williamson County Jail.

Deputies were able to obtain and execute a search warrant on the residence and recovered the knife used, along with other relevant evidence.

Sheriff Diederich also thanks Williamson County State’s Attorney Ted Hampson for his assistance in the matter.
