Man convicted of unlawful possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver in Jackson County
JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A man was convicted of multiple counts of unlawful possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver in Jackson County on Wednesday.
William J. Johnston, 40, was convicted of three counts of unlawful possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver. All three counts are Class X felonies.
During the one day trial, the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office presented evidence that the defendant sold methamphetamine in varying amounts to somone in Jackson County on three separate occasions.
Johnston was arrested at the Jackson County Jail. He is awaiting sentencing.
State’s Attorney Joseph A. Cervantez says he is proud of the efforts of law enforcement and the prosecutors in his office to combat the sale and distribution of this dangerous drug.
Cervantez said, “methamphetamine is a serious community disease that must be combatted with focus and a team mentality.”
The Southern Illinois Enforcement Group led the investigation.
Jackson County Assistant State’s Attorneys Sophia M. Allen and Attorney Ashtin N. Henninger led the prosecution.
