Marine veteran fighting cancer receives new roof through community efforts
SIKESTON, Mo. (KBSI) – Several local organizations are teaming up to give back to local veterans.
Patrick Riley is a 9-year marine veteran and father of five who sadly was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2018.
Riley says his diagnosis had drastic effects on both him and his family but sadly that wasn’t the end of Riley’s challenges. As he was undergoing treatment, he learned his home needed a new roof and he had no idea how he was going to make that happen. That is where Songs 4 Soldiers comes in.
Nick Reynolds is the Branch Manager for Fortify Building Solutions. He talks about Songs 4 Soldiers.
“So, there’s a program called songs for soldiers out of Columbia Illinois that we partner with every year. Songs for soldiers gives out things and helps with stuff for combat veterans in the area.”
Reynolds heard Riley’s story and sprang into action.
“So, he’s got a lot of stuff to worry about right now and if we can help this marine not worry about that one extra thing in life, I think that’s a big win for us.” says Reynolds.
Reynolds says this was made possible through not only the Songs 4 Soldiers program but Fortify Building Solutions and Daniel’s Roofing who donated the labor to put the roof on.
Anthony Yates is the owner of Daniel’s Roofing. He says they take pride in helping veterans in need.
“It feels like an obligation,” said Yates. “It feels like something we have to do. So it’s not something we ever have to think about a whole lot whenever it entertains our veterans or helping our community.”
Riley says he can’t thank this organization and community effort enough.
“It thank them with all my heart,” said Riley.”I really do. Its truly a true blessing that we were able to get this roof, and it was from the people who care for us, and I love them for it.”
Daniel’s Roofing finished installing the new roof Tuesday for Riley and his family.
