Mary Mingle 5K raises money for Community Counseling Center Foundation
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A 5K run dedicated to benefiting southeast Missouri’s Community Counseling Center Foundation took place this weekend.
The 3rd annual Mary Mingle 5K Run happened Saturday, December 9.
“We have so much fun doing it and it still supports a great cause,” said Michelle Ramsey, executive director of the Community Counseling Center Foundation.
Ramsey says she is grateful for all the support put forth for the Mary Mingle which is a 5K run. Proceeds go to clients within the organization.
“And we use those registration fees to purchase Christmas gifts for all of our residential client in our program in all five counties here in Missouri,” said Ramsey.
Ramsey says the event gives the community comradery and put people in the Christmas spirit.
“Enjoy getting to dress up and have some fun,” said Ramsey. “We’ve added a few things this year. We have mile sponsors. So, they’re going to cheer the racers as they cross each mile for the 3.1 mile 5k.”
The race began at 8 a.m. across the street from Mary Jane bourbon + smokehouse in Cape Girardeau and concluded by Minglewood Brewery.
Ryan Seabaugh, who was one of more than 260 participants says the Missouri road running community is a good one and perfect for the cause.
“And this is for a good cause donating to kids who may not get the toys they may need or want,” said Seabaugh. “So, I think it’s just good. People can exercise and have fun while donating.”
Seabaugh was one of the first-place winners this year. He says he’ll participate again.
“I’d participate again next year,” he said. “I think this was a really fun race and just good to get out there and have fun on the weekend.”
“We want to keep growing next year we want to be bigger and better,” said Ramsey. “And we think we did great this year, but we know we can do more. And so that is all thanks to you and especially thanks to Brandy (McIntire). Brandy has put her heart and soul into this race.”
