Mercy Hospital Southeast unveils $7.9 million Emergency Department renovation

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Mercy Hospital Southeast has unveiled its newly renovated emergency department, a $7.9 million project aimed at improving patient wait times and care efficiency.

The comprehensive renovation includes 25 exam rooms, two triage rooms, a new waiting room and bathrooms, and a reconfigured caregiver work area. Technological upgrades feature a new X-ray machine and a CT scanner, enabling faster diagnosis and stabilization of patients, particularly in suspected stroke cases.

“This renovation dramatically improves our patients’ experience when they visit the ER,” said Lori Merritt, director of emergency services. “We’ve implemented new processes, standardized rooms and equipment to see patients quicker and get them home faster.”

A blessing ceremony for the new space was held Tuesday, attended by hospital leadership, caregivers, local officials and community members.

“The completion of this renovation means better outcomes for our patients,” said Eric Ammons, Mercy Southeast president. “That’s key to the excellent patient experience Mercy strives to provide.”
