SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — A Mississippi man wanted on a sexual assault warrant was arrested Wednesday after officers in Sikeston recovered an illegally modified firearm capable of fully automatic fire, according to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.
Officers responded around 4 p.m. March 11 to the 600 block of Pine Street during an investigation involving an illegal firearm and a fugitive from Mississippi.
Police detained L’Torian Williams, 21, of Southaven, Mississippi.
During the investigation, officers said they recovered a .40-caliber Glock handgun that had been modified with an auto sear device, commonly known as a “Glock switch.” Authorities said the modification converts a semi-automatic handgun into a fully automatic firearm capable of firing multiple rounds with a single trigger pull.
Fully automatic firearms are illegal under federal law unless they are properly licensed and registered, officials said.
Williams is being held without bond on a charge of unlawful possession, transport, manufacture, repair or sale of an illegal weapon, a Class D felony. He is also being held on the Mississippi warrant for sexual assault, police said.
Authorities encourage anyone with information related to illegal firearms or violent crime to contact the Sikeston Department of Public Safety at 573-471-4711 or submit an anonymous tip at 573-475-3774.
