Missouri officials advise against swimming at 4 state park beaches over E. coli levels

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KBSI) — Missouri officials announced updated beach water quality results for state parks across the state as of May 20, with several beaches exceeding recommended E. coli levels.

Swimming is not recommended at the following beaches after water samples exceeded the state’s recommended threshold of 190 E. coli colonies per 100 milliliters of water:

  • Lake Lincoln Beach at Cuivre River State Park
  • Public Beach No. 1 at Lake of the Ozarks State Park
  • Grand Glaize Beach at Lake of the Ozarks State Park
  • Public Beach at Mark Twain State Park

State officials said the beaches remain open, but swimming is discouraged due to elevated bacteria levels.

The following beaches were open and did not exceed recommended E. coli levels:

  • Finger Lakes State Park
  • Lake Wappapello State Park
  • Long Branch State Park
  • St. Joe State Park
  • Stockton State Park
  • Thousand Hills State Park
  • Trail of Tears State Park
  • Harry S Truman State Park
  • Wakonda State Park
  • Watkins Woolen Mill State Park

No beaches were closed due to elevated E. coli levels.

However, two beaches at Pomme de Terre State Park remain closed because of harmful algal blooms, despite meeting E. coli standards.

Officials said no water quality samples are currently pending.
