Missouri utilities, agencies offer assistance to storm victims
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — As residents recover from the May 16 storms and tornadoes, the Missouri Public Service Commission is reminding consumers of available assistance from utilities and other agencies.
Ameren Corporation and Spire are offering various forms of aid, including:
Pausing disconnections for nonpayment and waiving deposits for new service
Special payment arrangements and increased funding for energy relief programs
Other agencies offering assistance in the St. Louis area include:
City of St. Louis Tornado Response Fund
United Way of Greater St. Louis
The Salvation Army
Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis
In Scott County, the Bootheel Regional Community Foundation and Scott County Emergency Management Team have activated the Scott County Impact Fund.
Consumers are reminded to contact their utility providers for assistance with service termination or restoration. The PSC Consumer Services Hotline is also available at 800-392-4211.
The commission warns consumers to be cautious of potential scams and predatory practices, and to report suspicious activity to the Missouri Attorney General Consumer Hotline at 800-392-8222.
