Notre Dame freshman Martina Ressel dominates in cross country and track

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI)— Notre Dame freshman Martina Ressel is making a name for herself as one of Southeast Missouri’s top young athletes. After a strong cross-country season, Ressel continued her success on the track, winning the 800-meter dash at the Cape Central Invitational with a personal-best time of 2:25.21.
Ressel’s impressive performance was 6.77 seconds ahead of runner-up Harper Ellermeyer of Murphysboro. The freshman phenom has already set her sights on breaking school records and earning more accolades this spring.
Notre Dame cross country head coach and track assistant coach Richie Bohn praised Ressel’s attitude and work ethic, saying she’s “easy to coach” and “will work hard no matter what the workout is.”
Ressel credits teammate Lily Coy for her development and success, and the two form one of the top running duos in Southeast Missouri.
With her sights set on the state level, Ressel is currently ranked in the top 10 in both the 1600 and 3200 at the Class 4 state level.
