Officer gives update on Cape Girardeau police podcast

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The Cape Girardeau Police Department started a podcast a few months ago and Officer Bobby Newton says the reviews have been pretty good.

“It’s a great way for us to get out into the community and let them know what their officers do,” said Newton.

The first full episode of the podcast aired in August with Police Chief Wes Blair as the first guest of the show.
The podcast has had over 400 downloads since it began.

“Our average numbers are about 50 to 60 per episode,” said Newton. “Which is great. It’s a first-time podcast. There’s not any other departments to my knowledge in this area that do it.”

The podcast is to help inform the community and even officers about the goings on within the department and maybe even find out about things people didn’t realize goes into the work officers do on a daily basis.
“There’s really nothing off limits,” saidd Newton. “We want to talk about the police department obviously, highlight what our men and women are doing, but then we also want to get some feedback from the community.”

Newton says he is open to suggestions for ideas people in the community want to hear about.
