Old Seminary water tower demolished in Perry County

PERRY COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — A loud boom heard across parts of Perry County before 9 a.m. was likely the result of the demolition of the old Seminary water tower, according to the Perry County Historical Society.
The historical society said the tower was intentionally toppled as part of ongoing infrastructure updates in the area. The structure had long been a recognizable landmark in the community before being removed.
The demolished tower dates back to January 1926 and was located adjacent to the east of Mount Hope Cemetery. The site included a spring-fed well that was expanded over time through additional digging and repairs. According to historical records, the well was considered one of the deepest — and possibly the deepest — in Missouri.
Officials said the demolition follows the installation of a new blue water tower several months ago, replacing the aging structure while continuing to meet the area’s water needs.
