One arrested, two suspects sought in Carbondale burglary investigation

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Police in Carbondale are investigating a burglary that occurred early March 14 and have arrested one suspect.

Officers responded around 2:09 a.m. to a burglary alarm in the 900 block of East Main Street. Upon arrival, they found damage to a business entry door, but the suspects had already fled.

Investigators said three suspects arrived in a dark-colored vehicle and parked in the 200 block of North Oakland Avenue around 1:55 a.m. The suspects then walked to the business, forced entry and stole merchandise before returning to the vehicle and leaving the area northbound on North Oakland Avenue around 2:08 a.m.

On March 18, officers identified one suspect as 19-year-old Clayton R. Haley of Marion. He was arrested on a burglary charge and taken to the Jackson County Jail, where he is being held pending a detention hearing.

Police said two additional suspects, identified as juvenile males from Carbondale, have not yet been located.
