Paducah hosting 40th AQS Quilt Week
PADUCAH, Ky. (KBSI) – The American quilter’s society is displaying quilts from around the world, by vendors and quilt makers who have traveled far and wide, like Tracy Patterson with Zundt Design from Australia.
“Like we’re from out of the country so people who are customers, get to see us where they normally purchase online,” said Patterson.
The American Quilters Society holds multiple events in cities across the United States.
Where many award-winning quilts are shown.
Bringing in thousands of visitors to Paducah.
Bill Schroeder is the President and CEO of the American Quilters Society and he says the quilt show just keeps getting bigger every year.
“We’re going to be somewhere between 28,000 and 30,000 and attendees. So that’s basically doubling Paducah in size for the week,” said Schroeder.
Many of the workshops and lectures have vendors busy with business.
Jill Finley with Jill Lily Studio comes from Utah for Quilt Week, and says the amount of attention the convention receives helps her customer relationships thrive.
“I love meeting my customers, my quilters,” said Finley. “I have a business where I design fabric, and patterns and notions, and so sometimes I’m just stuck in my little studio doing my thing and it’s fun to get out and meet my customers.”
Schroeder says vendors and non-quilting vendors are just a piece of what can be found, but the main attraction for most are the show quilts.
“They’re works of art,” said Schroeder. “A lot of people don’t understand that. They think they’re just these things that you throw on a bed, and they’re really art quilts and they are really amazing.”
