Pedestrian seriously injured after being struck by vehicle in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — A pedestrian was seriously injured Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle in Carbondale.
According to the Carbondale Police Department, officers responded at 8:16 p.m. Oct. 7 to the 1200 block of West Main Street for a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
When officers arrived, they found the victim unresponsive in the roadway with severe injuries. The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Investigators determined the victim had walked across two lanes of traffic on West Main Street and stopped while still in a lane when they were struck. Police said the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk at the time of the crash.
The driver, identified as Simeon L. Everage, 24, of Carbondale, was cited for driving while license suspended and released pending a court appearance.
A Civic Ready Alert was issued to advise motorists to avoid the area during the investigation. The Illinois State Police assisted at the scene.
