Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center reports $224 million community impact

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo., (KBSI) — Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center provided care to thousands of area residents in 2024, with more than 361,000 patient encounters across its network of physician clinics and outpatient sites.

The health system’s impact totaled an estimated $224 million in 2024, according to its Community Benefit Report.

In addition to delivering healthcare, the system provided $83 million in charity and uncompensated care and helped patients secure medications and medical support devices.

The hospital’s emergency department saw over 42,000 visits annually, with the average time patients spent in the ER decreasing by more than 30 minutes.

“Our work to grow and enhance medical services is ongoing,” said Clyde Wood, CEO of PBRMC. “We’re proud to make an impact on the health, well-being and quality of life in Poplar Bluff and surrounding areas.”

The health system and its employees support local organizations addressing social determinants of health, such as the SEMO Food Bank and Boys & Girls Club of the Heartland.

PBRMC invested $3.5 million in capital projects in 2024, including upgrades to surgical suites and patient monitoring systems.

The hospital offers medical specialties including cardiology, gastroenterology and orthopedics, and has enhanced access through tele-critical care services and recruitment of primary care providers.

PBRMC is one of the community’s larger employers, with a payroll of $108 million, and supports the future nursing and technical healthcare workforce through collaborations with local colleges.

The hospital paid $13.7 million in taxes in 2024, supporting local infrastructure and civic resources.
