Public meeting July 11 for U.S. 51 Ohio River ‘Cairo’ Bridge replacement project
CAIRO, Ill. (KBSI) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will hold a public meeting Thursday, July 11 to discuss the U.S. 51 Ohio River bridge replacement project.
It will be at the Cairo High School in Cairo, Illinois starting at 5 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting, discover the plans and get a clearer picture of what the new bridge will look like. The meeting will include a presentation of the bridge along with time for the public to give their questions comments and concerns about the project.
“We will have a formal presentation at about 6 p.m. where we will go through how the project has progressed since our last public meeting the big item for this meeting will be sharing the bridge design type for the new bridge,” said Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Public Information officer Keith Todd. “It won’t be an exact rendering but it will be pretty close to what we think the new bridge will actually look like.”
Todd says that the plan for the foreseeable future is to prepare for the construction of the new bridge.
“The goal is to get the new bridge to construction we hope in 2028 providing that funding is available and it’ll be about a four of five year construction project when we get there,” he said. “So that’s going to be pretty exciting for us to share on Thursday night. We just need everybody to come out and come by for a visit and take a look. We will have lots of displays and lots of people there to answer questions and there will also be people there accepting feedback from the public so people can tell us what they think and what they do see.”
