Recovery high school considered for Cape Girardeau community

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – The Cape Girardeau Public School District is seeking feedback from stakeholders on a potential Recovery High School in the community.

Key features of Recovery High Schools include:

— Meeting state requirements for awarding a secondary school diploma
— Providing a safe, substance-free environment
— Fostering a community of students who are actively choosing recovery
— Emphasizing abstinence from substances while enrolled
— Embracing harm reduction principles in school policies
— Prioritizing student leadership, ownership and voice in programming development

The district is considering establishing a Recovery High School to support students recovering from substance misuse or co-occurring disorders. Stakeholder feedback is encouraged as the district explores this possibility.
