Registered sex offender arrested after report of rape at Dyersburg business

DYERSBURG, Tenn. (KBSI) – A registered sex offender faces aggravated rape and robbery charges after police say he raped a woman in a business and stole cash.

Jimmy Taylor, 34, of Ripley, faces aggravated rape, aggravated robbery and aggravated assault charges.

Police responded to a 911 call on June 21 around 5:30 p.m. Woman reported she had been raped. Police responded to her place of employment on US Highway 51 By-pass south.

The woman told police a man came into the business seeking a loan, sprayed her with a chemical agent and raped her.

The suspect took cash and left the scene in a vehicle.

“Taylor was developed as a person of interest last night (June 21) by the responding officers of the DPD patrol division,” said Dyersburg Police Chief Steve Isbell. “The information gathered by responding officers, and the continued investigation by the DPD criminal investigation division throughout last night and today (June 22), resulted in the quick arrest of this alleged violent offender.”

Taylor is being held in jail pending court action by Dyersburg City Court. Taylor is currently a registered violent sex offender on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Sex Offender Registry.
