Retired teacher faces financial struggle after tornado damages home

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo., (KBSI) — A retired schoolteacher and community volunteer faces overwhelming recovery costs after an EF3 tornado damaged her property, incurring a $14,400 emergency bill.

Susie L., a dedicated educator and volunteer librarian, received only $6,000 from her homeowners insurance, leaving a significant shortfall.

A GoFundMe has been set up to support Susie, a single senior citizen on a fixed income, who risks losing her home if she cannot cover the remaining costs.

“Susie has worked hard her entire life, and now she’s facing the real possibility of losing her home,” said Jennifer Hurley, GoFundMe organizer.
