Retiring fire chief recognized for nearly 5 decades of service

MILLERSVILLE, Mo. (KBSI) — At his retirement party, the Millersville fire chief was recognized for spending nearly five decades in the fire service.

At the Millersville fire station community members celebrated Fire Chief Ray Warner’s retirement with food, friends, words of gratitude and a special gift.

A golden axe was presented to Warner who has dedicated 47 years to the fire service — more than eight of those years at the Millersville Rural Fire Protection District.

Chief Sean Mitchell, who has stepped into the role of fire chief, said Warner has been a great leader and mentor.

“Big shoes to live up to,” Mitchell said, “but I think I’m capable of doing the job. I’ve been in the fire service for a little while, and it’s kind of humbling to get to come back to the department where you started 23 years ago.”

Chief Mitchell said they will continue Warner’s legacy by pushing the department forward as he did — ensuring they have state of the art equipment and are providing the best emergency coverage they can to the community.
