Salvation Army in Cape Girardeau opens as warming center
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The Salvation Army in Cape Girardeau is prepared to open their doors as an emergency overnight warming center beginning Monday, January 15. Due to the weather prediction, the facility anticipates being open every evening for a week.
The organization is looking for more volunteers and donations to help during this time.
Volunteers from The Gibson Center for Behavioral Change will also be at the Salvation Army January 15 to help people find resources and aid they may be needing or looking for.
Norman Boyce is volunteering his time at the Salvation Army; he works with the Gibson Center for Behavioral Change and says community efforts like this is why he does it.
“We have individuals who are experiencing different issues whether it be mental health, substance use, or just falling on your luck right? And so, we all need to come together and volunteer and help each other to build each other up and offer resources to one another,” said Boyce.
The Gibson Center for Behavioral Change’s mission is to provide services to promote new behaviors for a healthy lifestyle.
Boyce is offering his services and help during this time to those who need it.
“You know offering that case management, or the individual counseling or things like that allows them to get that well rounded care, in kind of like a holistic approach of care,” Boyce added.
