CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Southeast Missouri State University’s Heartland Independent Winter Guard has earned a gold medal in the Mid-Continent Color Guard Association Championships, capping off its inaugural competitive season.
The 15-member ensemble performed its 2025 program, “The Bridge Between Us,” in the Independent Regional A Classification.
Throughout the season, the group competed in multiple events, winning its class at every competition leading up to the championship in Willard, Missouri.
“This championship is a testament to our students’ passion, discipline and drive,” said Dr. Jim Daughters, director of bands at Southeast Missouri State University.
The Heartland Independent Winter Guard was founded this year as part of the university’s expanding performing arts initiatives.
